SO, WHAT IS FOREST SCHOOL?

 

  • Takes place in a natural setting, with regular visits to the same place over a period of time.

  • Seeks to promote social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual development and children and to foster resilience, independence, creativity, and confidence.

  • Encourages a love of nature and a deeper relationship with our Creator.

  • Provides opportunity for reasonable risk taking under the guidance of supportive teachers. Play based learning and as far as possible is child initiated.

  • Occurs in any weather except for thunderstorms which can blow down branches and bring lighting.

FOREST SCHOOL PROGRAM

Includes grades Kindergarten and first grade who play in the forest adjacent to our main school buildings every Friday.

Learning is play-based using hands-on methods our curriculum is guided by education standard of the North American Division SDA Church.

WE TAKE PLAY SERIOUSLY

Children today do not have the same opportunities to play outdoors as they did a generation ago. Long school hours, after school programs, time spent on homework, and safety concerns have crowded out lively outdoor play. Here are a few things active play does for your child:
